Down Syndrome: Hey dude, better take cover!
Dyslexic Guy: What are you talking about?
Down Syndrome: I'm gonna ran after you and I'm gonna beat the hell out of you until you're like a pulp. You want me to shove this knife up your ass?
Dyslexic Guy: What do you want from me?
Down Syndrome: Ugly people like you don't deserve a place here on earth. Gaddamit!
Bullies used to be big guys who who picked on smaller ones --- people who they think they could easily topple down physically. They are mean and rude and they'd do anything until you shrink out of shame. But the rise of the technology has brought even more disastrous effects to bullying. Today, people have been using technology to bully each other. People have devised a way to bully other people using cellphones and the internet. This is called cyber bullying and it can be downright scary as face-to-face aggression.
Cyber bullies have their own scare tactics. They improvise by using cellphones, text messages and emails. They use their camera phones to take pictures of people and pass it around the internet with cruel commentaries. Worse are cases when they take videos of you and spread it around like scandals.
What makes it so easy and beguiling is the mask of anonymity it provides along with a potentially huge audience. And because you can be anonymous, there is no fear of detection. For the victims, it can be so damaging because it's so pervasive.
The effects of technology can sometimes be really daunting. My advice: don't be intimidated by technology. Remember that there are many others who use technology responsibly. We don't need to freak out. The next time someone bullies you, just ignore them. Don't let them get into your way. If they want to bully you, then let them chase you. Before you know it, they'll get tired of it.
